Grow Your Own

Jan 24th, 2009 by Matthew

Growing your own is quickly becoming popular again throughout the UK. From a quick look on the internet, you could be well on your way to growing some of your own food.

Why?

It’s a rewarding, healthy and evermore tempting to plant, grow, pick and consume fresh vegetables with no food miles (just a few yards).

How

You don’t need a huge garden or an allotment (although it is always handy) to grow food. A small patch to the side of your garden or even containers, pots or hanging baskets can be used.

You need seeds, time and a little patience. Seeds can be got hold of from almost any DIY shop and now even supermarkets are selling them! But time and patience is down to you.

When

You should follow planting instructions on the back of the packets but normally as a general guideline, the majority of sowing takes place from late Feb – March. Successional sowing can be made depending on the type of vegetable.
