From our first hatch – the 6 Sussex eggs posted to us (4 of which hatched), I am sure the 2 above are cocks so they are for the pot. The 2 (thought to be) hens have gone to live the other side of Ipswich.

With a bit of good weather appearing, I managed to get the greenhouse together and up to the plot, glazed and (almost) ready for planting in.

Sadly the eggs posted to me were damaged during transit from the breeders. I realised when I candled on day 7 and in the majority of them there were no airsac’s and in a few of them, there was an airsac but in the wrong place.

I found the below punishments and disciplinary tips for chickens.
Ignore:
Being rude.
Over eating and bad table manners.
Talking with their beak full.
Arguing among themselves.
Getting in the way or sticking their beaks in.
Making a mess.
A Serious Talking To:
Escaping.
Not sharing.
Bedtime Story of Foxy:
Not going in at night.
Venturing to the other side of the fence.
Roosting in the trees.
Eat Them:
Not laying eggs.

I did a little experiment today with the microwave :-0
Ingrediants:
100g SR Flour
100g Caster Sugar
100g Margarine
2 Eggs
All you need to do is stick it in a mixing bowl, combine the ingredients until it looks like cake mix. Then pour it in a suitable pudding basin and nuke it in the microwave for 4 1/2 minutes.

From yesterday’s hatch I am pleased to say we’ve had 10 chicks hatch from 12 eggs
4 Yellow & 6 Black. Hopefully they all survive.
Photo below shows 8 of the 10. The other 2 are still drying off in the incubator.
